digital aesthetic 3 2012 from Harris Museum on Vimeo.

The work showcased at the Harris Museum & Art Gallery is dynamic, challenging and diverse in both medium and content.

Takahiko Iimura’s multi-screen touch panel installation and projection piece Interactive: A I U E O NN, (l993/2012), is a new interpretation of his video A I U E O NN Six Features (1993). It is a humorous work that attempts to teach the basics of  the Japanese language, wrongly.  On a more philosophical note, Peter Callas’s digital print Postscript is a reflection on a 14th century fresco from Pisa’s Camposanto Monumentale.  The artist uses photographic manipulation to explore the theme of mortality by connecting together different periods of time.

Terry Flaxton’s video In Re Ansel Adams also makes deep connections to the past, exploring developments in both the making and experiencing of photographs though the application of High Resolution Imaging.  Alternatively, Mark Amerika’s web-based artwork The Museum of Glitch Aesthetics focuses on the now.  Fundamentally he questions identity and reality, whilst also exhibiting a large array of works that deliberately highlight and celebrate the limitation of digital technology. This work was commissioned as part of the Abandon Normal Devices Festival, and is specially remixed  for Digital Aesthetic³ 2012.

Harrison and Wood are premiering a new commission made especially for Digital Aesthetic³ 2012.  Unfinished, a video installation made by Sophie Calle in collaboration with Fabio Balducci, explores the meaning of authorship, money and security in the modern world.  This work belongs to the collection of  Electronic Arts Intermix, New York.

There are a range of associated events and activities for all ages – see calendar for details.
